Saturday 9th February
89a Shacklewell Lane E8 2EB
This is a 6-hour class held in my East London weaving studio, examining tapestry weaving in depth. It's suitable for both beginners and experienced weavers, but is ideal for those who want to learn how to weave detailed and complex imagery.
In the weeks before the class takes place, I’ll be in touch with each student via email with some pointers to help you prepare for the class and get a sense of what you would like to weave.
In the class itself, we’ll start by finalising designs for the tapestries and choosing colours. We’ll then warp the looms to the correct ends per inch for your designs. I’ll talk you through the essentials of warp and weft, how to maintain tension and straight selvedges.
Over the course of the class you’ll begin bringing your tapestry design to life, with plenty of hands-on advice and guidance. We’ll also cover general principles for the structure and construction of tapestry weaving and how to apply these in your own work in the future.
You’ll be learning the same processes that I use in my own work every day, and you’ll also be able to peek behind the scenes at the process of creating my handwoven tapestries. There will be plenty of time for one-on-one teaching, as well as opportunities for me to answer your weaving questions.
You’ll go home with your own loom, weaving tools and instruction booklet with all the information you’ll need to keep going with weaving.
Coffee and pastries will be served during the class, and we'll have a break for lunch at 1pm. Please let me know in advance if you have any dietary requirements!
Please note tickets are not refundable, so please make sure you’re able to attend, or find someone else to take your spot!
