UPDATE : One-to-one class bookings are closed until summer while I focus on my upcoming residency at the Barbican. Please contact me directly if you'd like to know when bookings reopen.
In the meantime, I will be running weaving workshops throughout the month of May at the Barbican- find out more and book here: https://www.barbican.org.uk/whats-on/2018/event/weaving-workshop-with-christabel-balfour
The Large Loom Weaving One-to-One is a four-hour class exploring tapestry weaving on a large frame loom. In this class I share the techniques that I use in weaving my rugs and wall- hangings.
I’ll take you through warping your loom, choosing materials, setting up leashes and shed sticks and starting to weave. We’ll cover designing for a large-scale piece, how to avoid structural flaws and curving sides, as well as shape-building, colour and texture.
Students will get their own large scale frame loom, measuring 40x60cm, weaving tools, warp thread and wool to take home with them, along with a copy of my booklet- “Tapestry Weaving: An Illustrate Guide.”
Classes are held in my studio in Peckham, south east London. If you have any questions about the class you can get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org
