A B O U T
A tapestry woven on a 1976 Harris floor loom, with rug wool in forest green, red, navy, lilac-grey, cream and burnt orange on a cotton warp.
This design explores different techniques of shape building. Long sloping angles are set against rows of smaller right-angled triangles. Reflecting shapes are made up of alternating passes of different coloured weft, and irregular shapes are woven from paper cut-outs.
The colour scheme evokes the strong colours and simple shapes of my childhood. For me this design is a cross between an abstract painting and a familiar woolly jumper. Textiles have a unique power to evoke a specific kind of nostalgic pull and I hoped to touch on that in this piece.
This piece is mounted on thick mountboard, front and back.
